JIM ORR:
The thing I love about filmmaking and especially cinematography is that at its best it is truly an art form. I believe that filmmaking is a blending of both historical and contemporary artistic influences. I also feel that cinematography is disinctly unique in that it allows for the sculpting of both light and shadow on a canvas that is three dimensional and a moving image.
What I loved so much about shooting Soledad, and working with Shlomo in particular, is that I was afforded the time to set up my shots and to think them out properly--something that isn't always possible for the hurried world of commercial work.
For this film I was able to truly treat every frame I shot as if it was a sacred experience; to me, this is how filmmaking should be but unfortunately isn't always practiced.
